I mentioned a while back that I was entering a contest on a whim. I might have also mentioned that I was nervous about it because I’ve only ever entered a few and I have never gotten a combined lukewarm reaction – readers love it or hate it. I won one a few years back that got me request for a full from an editor who wasn’t even acquiring what I was writing. This in turn led to an invitation to resubmit, but alas, I had nothing she’d acquire. At all. I don’t write category romance, as much as I wanted to at the time. Then the last time, I entered one, I got eaten alive and had my ass served on a plate by a bunch of judges who did not appear to like vampire YA. Or my writing. At all. (Well, that’s not really fair – one liked it and wanted to read the whole thing, the other two just strongly disagreed and scored me so low I almost slipped into a depression so deep it would require two hot men in uniform spoonfeeding me Prozac to make me okay again.) I said I wasn’t entering anymore contests. At all.
Well, I’m kinda glad I changed my mind. Because I finalled. I’m pretty happy with the commentary, too. Because if my most awful issue with the manuscript is my potty mouth, and I don’t really care about that, then it’s probably got a decent chance in the finals!!
Off to polish up my entry 🙂
Congrats! I hope you kick $#^&% ass! ;-)

I follow the do not enter rule. I always got the love it or hate it scores, no in betweens.
