I don’t know about you, but I love the beginning of a new story–when every sentence is a discovery and even though you have an idea how it ends, you have no real clue how exactly you’re going to get from point A to point B. And for this new project of mine, it is actually double the fun because it’s two books in one, written in tandem, telling the “same” story but from two VERY different points of view. (FYI, I’m planning to pitch it as one short novel with the “option” of a second, which I will conveniently have a complete draft of. I don’t want to shoot myself in the foot by demanding they go as a package deal, but my hope is that they will be so spectacular as a pair that no one would dream of separating them.)
So anyway, I spent the day writing and exploring the main character of the second, and I’m pleased to say that in three pages, he is now so much like a living, breathing person to me that I am going to have a hard time killing him off at the end of the book, and I need to re-plot the entire thing. No, I’m kidding. But he is great 🙂 I don’t often write from a male point of view, and I really like the cadence of his thoughts and his physical expressiveness of his feelings.
So while it doesn’t look like much right now (I’m guesstimating that each book will be about 50K, but they could end up longer.. we’ll see), a few pages on each book is still progress!
